The word biophilic was coined from the word biophilia which was originally coined by psychologist and philosopher Erich Fromm and describes the psychological orientation of humans to be attracted to all that is alive and vital. Biologist, naturalist and author Edward O. Wilson, later suggested that biophilia describes “the connections that human beings subconsciously seek with the rest of life.”
THEMATIC AREAS
Environmental Education, Storytelling and Capacity Building
We recognise the role of formal, non-formal, and informal learning in raising awareness on climate change and conservation and building cooperation across local, national, and international levels.
Our work includes researching gaps in skills and awareness, facilitating workshops and forums, developing resource materials and creative outputs such as films and art, and running impact campaigns to inspire action.
Environmental Justice, Advocacy and Governance
We work closely with youth, women, and indigenous communities to ensure they actively shape policies and practices that protect people and nature.
Through policy advocacy, collaboration, and capacity building, we strengthen inclusive-led efforts that influence environmental governance. By addressing cross-cutting issues such as human rights, climate justice, loss and damage, and corruption, we equip communities and institutions to drive lasting change.
Working For Nature: Green Careers and Biophilic Debate Series
Through storytelling, mentorship, workshops, and community collaborations, Biophilic Conversations is preparing a new generation of African youth to step confidently into green careers.
We are committed to making these pathways visible, accessible, and meaningful, ensuring that passion for nature can evolve into impactful, future-ready livelihoods.
