Reflections from the Content Creation River Workshop at GLF Africa 2025
We are honoured to have led the Storytelling and Content Creation River Workshop at the Global Landscapes Forum (GLF) Community & Action Assembly 2025 from 16th and 17th June 2025. It was a space alive with curiosity, creativity, and courage, where content creators from across the world came together to explore how stories shape not just how we see the world, but also how we act within it.
The Power of Storytelling for Impact
Our journey began by acknowledging a simple but profound truth: stories are one of the most powerful tools we have for change. From environmental narratives that stir emotion to hopeful and resonant messages that frame issues in new ways, stories can cut through noise and connect deeply with people.
In our workshop, we unpacked the art of riding trends and packaging content so that it resonates across platforms, without losing authenticity. We explored how to tell stories that go beyond raising awareness, stories that inspire action, nurture empathy, and sustain hope.
A key insight that anchored the workshop was this: movements may spark moments, but it is communities that sustain change. Stories don’t live in isolation. They breathe, grow, and evolve within communities of practice and care.
Through group discussions and creative exercises, we saw how collaboration and co-creation allow narratives to carry a further and deeper impact. When storytellers and content creators root their work in shared values and a collective purpose, they not only capture attention but also build trust and longevity in movements.
Learning as a Collective Craft
For us, partnering with the Global Landscapes Forum on this workshop has been a long-held dream, and June 16th and 17th marked the realisation of that vision. Day one was a vivid reminder that storytelling is a collective craft.
The techniques shared by participants, from personal storytelling to digital strategies, enriched the session with fresh perspectives. But more than the tools and trends, what stood out were the stories themselves: narratives born in that room, crafted with honesty and urgency. Each voice added to a chorus that affirmed storytelling is not just about communication, but about connection.
Looking Ahead: Building a Storytelling Community
What emerged from this workshop was not just a better understanding of how to create content, it was a renewed commitment to building a storytelling community. One grounded in collaboration, guided by ethics, and driven by hope.
As we closed the two days, we left with an important reminder: learning never ends. Every story told is both a lesson and an offering. And together, we carry the responsibility to keep telling stories that matter, stories that uplift communities, protect landscapes, and inspire change.
